News from the Principal

The school year is in full swing and classrooms are settling into routines. I am so very proud of how well all the elementary students have adjusted to the new school year and their new principal. For those folks that don’t know me, my name is Marion Spase. I have worked in the Putnam County R-I Schools for seven years, four years as the speech pathologist and three years as the special services coordinator. If you hadn’t noticed yet, I have implemented a few changes to the schedule and routine of the school day. As a new principal, I wanted to try doing things just a bit differently. Two changes that the students and teachers seem to be enjoying are the additional morning and lunch recess opportunities.
Beginning this school year, students are allowed to go to the playground at 8:00 a.m. Students seem to really enjoy this extra play time; however, we do want all students to eat a good breakfast. We serve breakfast from 7:50 a.m. until approximately 8:20 a.m. If your children are supposed to be eating the school breakfast, please talk to them or check with the school to ensure they are following this procedure. Many children are able to eat breakfast here and still have time for a few minutes on the playground.
When students finish eating their lunch, they can choose to go to lunch recess. Before they are allowed to go to recess, students must raise their hand and have a lunch supervisor dismiss them. The supervisors make sure that students eat a good portion of their meal before dismissing them to recess. We have noticed an improvement in student behavior during lunch time since we implemented the lunch recess privilege. Again, if you have any questions or concerns about the new procedure, please feel free to contact the school for further explanation.
