Ag. Science II Studies Plants!

October 01, 2010
In Ag Science II the students are learning about grasslands and how to classify plants. The different grasslands they are learning about are native grasslands, prairies, glades, and savannas. They have also learned how to manage the grasslands and what type of grass is produced in each season such as cool season and warm season grasses. By learning the life span of a plant such as annual, biennial, and perennial it helps them understand the importance of the plant life cycle. While studying the common plants of Putnam County it helps them know what is grown in the community. In the following weeks students will bring in a plant to be dried so each student can make a plant mount of their own to study. Some of the plants gathered are Goldenrod, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Chickory, Timothy and Common Ragweed. This unit will help prepare them for their farming experience in the future.
