Course Description:

This class is designed to help students establish good study habits and give extra time and help for homework.  Throughout the year, we will use tutorial methods and cooperative learning to assist students with their homework.

Grading Scale:

100-90                         A

89-80                             B

79-70                             C

69-60                             D

59 & below            F

Classroom Procedures:

Students will arrive at class ON TIME and will be seated with the necessary materials by the second bell.  Students not in their seats and working by the second bell ARE COUNTED TARDY.

During the first 5-10 minutes of class, we will spend time working on various activities that will help prepare you for end-of-course exams in the spring.  These activities are not meant to take time away from completing regular classroom assignments.  They will give you a “head start” on material that you will be learning throughout the year.

Students are allowed three (3) trips into the hallway per quarter to retrieve forgotten materials.  After three trips, there is a ten-point deduction for each trip into the hallway.

Students are expected to work on homework during Strategies class.  Sleeping, drawing, non-productive sitting, etc. are unacceptable.  It will be in your best interest to bring the appropriate materials to class.  If you do not, I will provide you with something suitable.

Rude, cruel, vulgar remarks, or disruptive behavior are unacceptable.  I will give one warning, and then I will assign after-school detentions for these offenses.  If any of these offenses occur on regular basis, the student will be sent to the principal, and the parent/guardian will be contacted.

All students are expected to be respectful to substitute teachers.  If for any reason your name is written down because of a rule infraction, you will receive a 45-minute detention with me.

Students will be graded on proper classroom procedures.  Students will automatically earn the maximum 5 points by following classroom procedures discussed in this syllabus and during class.  Points will be deducted when classroom rules are not followed.  Also, if a regular classroom teacher informs me that you are missing assignments--not due to an absence--you will receive a ten-point deduction from your grade.

FYI:

I treat all my students fairly; however, fair does not necessarily mean equal. Also, I will never discuss you with another student or parent.  Isn’t that great?!

If you have any questions or need help with homework, my plan periods are 3rd block blue days and 1st block on white days.

If you will be gone for a school-related event, you must get your assignments from your teacher(s) before/after school, during activity period, or his/her plan time.  Do not interrupt their class time!

Get into the habit of writing down your assignments when they are given to you during class.  Your agenda is a valuable tool--use it!

Enjoy high school, because the time will go by fast!
