Giving Fourth-Graders a Firm Foundation: Mrs. Shannon Bain

🙌🏻Please give a warm welcome back to 4th grade teacher and Putnam County alumna, Mrs. Shannon Bain.🙌🏻 Shannon is starting her 16th year of teaching this school year. She taught👩🏻‍🏫 for 10 years at South Harrison in Bethany, MO and is starting her 6th year with Putnam County. Mrs. Bain graduated 👩🏻‍🎓with her Bachelor of Arts degree from Graceland University and received her masters in Education Administration from William Woods University. 🙌🏻Please welcome new paraprofessional, Mrs. Rita Smith.🙌🏻   Rita was born and raised in Garnett, Kansas, a rural, small town about forty minutes south of Kansas City. She 👰🏻and her husband🤵🏻 Tyler have lived in Lucerne for the past five years. They have one daughter MaKenna👧🏻, who is attending preschool this year. STEM Bins Engage 4th Graders

Mrs. Bain's 4th-grade class has been enjoying some hands-on learning with STEM Bins. STEM Bins are plastic school boxes filled with an engineering manipulative of the student's choice, such as Legos, pattern blocks, base ten blocks, unifix cubes, toothpicks and playdough, or popsicle sticks with velcro on the ends. The boxes also contain small sets of task cards on metal rings that picture a variety of basic engineering structures. When students’ regular classwork is complete, they can take one STEM Bin at a time, either to their seat or a more quiet carpet area so as not to distract other students who are working, and get a quiet moment to engineer. They use the materials in the box to construct as many different structures on the cards as they can. And instead of being just “busy,” students . . .

Lady Midgets Prepare For Season Opener

Our Lady Midgets softball team enjoyed a successful Jamboree weekend. Putnam, Schuyler, Brookfield, and Trenton teams scrimmaged against each other on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 1st at 9:00 am to cheer on our Lady Midgets. We will be hosting a tournament to kick off the season. She spent her first year teaching as a long term sub. Mrs. Trimble taught for 7 years at Mormon Trail Elementary in Humeston, Iowa. First Grade is fun with Mrs. Fenton! Please give a warm welcome back to Mrs. Tara Fenton! Tara graduated from Seymour High School in 2002. 👩🏼‍🎓(Fun fact: Dr. Halley was her 7th grade science teacher 😊) Mrs. Fenton earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education and endorsements in reading from Graceland University. 👩🏼‍🎓She later obtained her Masters in Administration from William Woods University. Tara and her family have made Centerville, IA their home for the last 14 years. They have 3 children. Karver is 9👦🏻, Kyson is 6🧒🏻, and Adley is 1👶🏻.
