Putnam County Agriculture Students Qualify for State Competition

            After several weeks of preparation and five practice contests, the agricultural contest teams headed to the Northeast District Contest in Macon, Missouri on April 1st, 2015.  A total of ten teams competed consisting of 40 Putnam County students.  When contests were over, the results were posted and six teams qualified for state competition.  These teams competed at state contest in Columbia on April 16th and 17th.  Agriculture contest areas are based on classroom curriculum and give students an opportunity to learn more in-depth specific knowledge about various agriculture contest areas.  The northeast district is comprised of 60 schools.

            The following is a list of the teams that competed, their rankings, and their respective team members:

Entomology placed 6th overall (out of 27 teams). The team consisted Haley B., Riley W, Katelyn G. and Lauren R. Their placing earned them a trip to compete at the state level.

 

Dairy Foods placed 12th overall (out of 31 teams).  The team consisted of Taya R, Hunter H, Kyle B., and Megan T. This team did not qualify for state competition

 

Farm Management placed 7th overall (out of 27 teams) and qualified for state contest. The team consisted of Courtney G., Katelyn H., Alisyn H. and Jordan W.

 

Agronomy placed 9th overall (out of 18 teams) and qualified for state contest.  The team consisted of Ashlyn S., Jordan H., Sara W. and Brianna V.

 

Forestry placed 8th overall (out of 32 teams).  The team consisted of Josh V., Devin V., Justin D., and Jay R.. Their scored paved the way for them to attend state competition.

 

Dairy Cattle placed 12th overall (out of 20 teams) and did not qualify for state competition. The team consisted of Amy M., Jessica V., Tyler R. and Grant S.

 

Meats placed 3th overall (out of 35 teams).  The team consisted of Tanner B., Jacob H., Derek L.and Trevor C.. Jacob H. also ranked as the overall 2nd high individual in the contest and earned a medal.  They advanced to state competition.

 

Poultry Judging placed 20th overall (out of 27 teams) and did not qualify for state contest.  The team consisted of Selby S., Colton W., Stephanie D., and Alex T.

 

Livestock Judging placed 31st overall (out of 37 teams). The team was made up of Austin P., Joel S., Joe F. and Seth C. They did not qualify for state competition.

 

Horse Judging team placed 9th overall (out of 29 teams) and qualified for state contest.   The team consisted of Treyton R, Morgan R, Callie D. and Joshua G.

 

            Placing in the top ten at districts is a prestigious award. This year, only one student placed in the top ten. Jacob H. placed 2nd in the meats contest, and earned a district contest medal. Many more participants placed in the top twenty. Also attending the contests were advisors Clyde Bondy and Randy Morris.
