Informative writing contains factual information. Informative writing includes items such as invitations, memos, announcements, directions, and many more examples. The sixth grade students are currently creating their own informative writing pieces. The most recent piece of writing required the students to pay attention to the small details that were needed in order for the reader to comprehend their writing. Writing directions has been an interesting informative writing for the sixth grade students. The assignment required the students to start at our classroom in the middle school. The students were able to choose a destination that was located on the school grounds or close by in the community. In the end, we had a wonderful discussion that included which way is North, what type of landmarks are beneficial to use, and how presuming someone knows something can cause many problems.
