Kindergarten News!

Dear Parents,

Communication Arts:  This week we completed Theme 6, Sunshine and Raindrops.  We continued practicing blending and segmenting phonemes (individual sounds) to make words, and we reviewed and read sentences with our high-frequency words.  We met a new alphafriend, Queenie Queen, for the letter Qq, and we reviewed the letters Ll and Hh. We also reviewed determining the plot as well as practiced evaluating details and differentiating between realism and fantasy in stories that we read.  Lastly, we learned a new word family: the -in family (bin, tin, win, etc.) and continued blending short i and short a words.

Math:  This week we practiced showing numbers in different ways, taking apart the number and telling the parts, representing subtraction as taking away from a whole, and separating numbers.

Book Fair Information

  • Mon., Mar. 11:  Preview day—our time is scheduled for 2:00 – 2:20 during our library time.  Please do not send money with your child as there will be no book sales at that time.  The students will have the opportunity to write down the books/items they want and their cost to review with you at home.

  • Thurs., Mar. 14:   Our class will visit the book fair from 1:30-1:55 during our library time to purchase books/items.  Only students that bring money to purchase will go on Thursday.  Parents are more than welcome to join us to help their child.  However, if you are unable to attend, please send your child’s money and list of books/items to be purchased in an envelope labeled with their name, class (KI), and amount of money inside the envelope.  Also, please don’t forget to add 7.6% to purchases for sales tax.  This will be the only time we will go to the book fair to purchase books as a class, so you are also more than welcome to visit the book fair with your child on your own if a different time would work better for you.
