Orval Spence Memorial Alumni Art Exhibit

New Addition to 2019 All-School Reunion

Orval Spence Memorial Alumni Art Exhibit a New Addition to 2019 All School Reunion

Do you love working with wood?  Is painting your thing, or do you prefer quilting or knitting?  Regardless of your choice of expression, catching up on what we’ve been doing since high school is the best part of a class reunion.  What better way than to show what you’ve been creating. This year’s all-school event will include the Orval Spence Memorial Alumni Art Exhibit in the high school on Saturday, August 31, 2019.  Tom and Gwyn Keedy are also offering the Bixler Building on the west side of the Square as a venue in which we will display works produced by UHS and PCR-I alumni before and after the reunion.  Below are participation requirements and the Alumni Art Exhibit Form. We would appreciate receiving your entries by August 20, 2019, to provide time for labeling and display arrangements. Please call Jane McDonald at 660-299-0224 with any questions or you may contact me by email at janepa7nts@gmail.com. This is a non-juried event simply for the purpose of sharing creative efforts. Whether cross stitch or sculpture, we’re excited to see just how much talent has come out of this little community.

Orval Spence graduated with the UHS Class of 1962 and went on to be an art educator with a passion for painting, drawing and photography; he passed in 2018.   If you have examples of the original artwork of other UHS/PCR-I graduates no longer with us, we would love to include those pieces in this exhibit. Recent graduates’ work is sought as well.

Participation Requirements

Exhibits may include original works in any medium. Artists may submit up to two pieces following these guidelines:

  1. Flatwork (including photographs): If you submit 2 pieces, each should be no larger than 36" x 24”. If you submit one piece, it must be no larger than 72" x 50". All artwork should be ready to hang and include proper hooks and/or wires, and works on paper should be framed.

  2. Sculpture (that can be placed on the floor): Should be no larger than 50” x 40” x 40”.

  3. Other forms of Art or Sculpture that are small or moderate-sized (no wider than 50”): Please specify special needs.
