From the Desk of Dr. Halley: Thank You to Our Caring Community

Good morning Putnam County R-I Community,

I’m looking out my office window as I do so many times as I write to you. Today is a rainy, gloomy March Wednesday. It probably fits most everyone’s attitude with the situation we find ourselves in. However, the topic I want to discuss today is what a wonderful community we live in. Several community members have reached out asking how they can help. Please know that we are keeping this in mind as we plan for the future.

At this time we would like to take a moment to thank all of the volunteers who have offered their time and resources to help our students in any way they can. Currently, we have many behind the scenes faculty and staff ensuring our needs are met. I want to take the opportunity to thank all of our dedicated staff who have made this happen.

If you would like to donate but prefer to stay inside, you are able to go to our school website, under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the page and click on the Donate button. This goes directly to our school PayPal account and will be used for purchasing food items for our students.

The sack lunch program that we will be implementing must follow the nutrition guidelines set forth by the federal government. However, if candy or candy bars were donated, they could be placed in with the sack lunches as an added treat. There will be a donation box located on a picnic table outside the high school commons each Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 am - 10:00 am.

Until we have more opportunities available to share, we encourage you to reach out to friends, families, and neighbors to see how you can help. Perhaps it's an elderly neighbor who needs assistance with grocery shopping or families who could use food or other essential donations. However, safety should be your top priority, so please practice social distancing, wash your hands frequently and stay home if sick.

As I wrap up, I would like to leave you with a quote, as I often do. This is by R.J. Palacio. She says, "Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness."

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Heath
