FAQ: What Happens When I am Placed on Quarantine? (Students)
FAQ: Students
What happens when I am notified that I am a close contact and have to be quarantined?
-
If you are placed on quarantine by the Health Department, you or your parents should immediately contact your building secretary or principal and coach to let them know.
-
You are expected to complete assignments from home during this time.
-
Your teacher will record their lessons on Google Classroom LIVE each day.
-
You are expected to show up for your class online each day during the regularly scheduled time to count for attendance. HS/MS Bell Schedule 2020-2021
-
Keep in Mind -- we are following the rules on quarantine, we do not make them. If you are not an essential worker, you are to stay home.
If I am an athlete or involved in band and extracurricular activities, how does this affect me?
-
If you are an athlete or part of an extracurricular club, such as FFA, FBLA, DECA, Interact, Art Club, Gaming Club, etc. You will be staying at home during quarantine and not participating in any activities, games, practices or events in person. You may work out virtual practices per MSHSAA rules with your coach.
-
If you are in band, choir, Advertising Class, Journalism Class/Club, etc, you are still expected to complete your assignments from home. However, you are not permitted to leave your house during quarantine. You would be given an alternative assignment to make up for missing that event that would have normally been counted for a grade.
How do my assignments and education change while on quarantine?
-
Homebound students will be expected to attend class virtually and are expected to watch any videos that the teacher posts to google classroom if they cannot make the live session.
-
If you are unable to meet LIVE, you will need to let your teacher know ahead of time.
-
Use email, Google Classroom, and Google Meet during class time to communicate with your teacher.
-
We have added Go Guardian for screen monitoring, especially if you have to take a test. Teachers are able to access student screens between 8am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday.
-
Make sure you are logging in for each class. Absences can negatively affect your grades and possibly your A+ status, even during quarantine. Show up to class virtually so you don’t have to worry about missing out.
High School Distance Learning Suggestions:
-
Students who are quarantined should log on LIVE every period every day for the first 10-25 minutes of class with their cameras on.
-
Students and teachers are still expected to cover the same amount of work as if they were physically here in the building.
Am I able to attend any special events like assemblies, parades, games, etc?
No. You are under quarantine. Aside from being an essential worker and having to report to work if you are symptom-free, you are to remain at home.
How do I get my papers from school if an assignment wasn’t delivered electronically?
Let your school secretary know when you would have someone available to pick up your work. If your work cannot be picked up in a timely manner, please let us know so we can get those assignments delivered to you.
What do I do if I’m having technical difficulties?
Let your teacher and principal know. Also, email Mr. Schnakenberg with any technical difficulties.
How might this affect me emotionally?
You might not notice much of a difference. You might feel bored, lonely, overwhelmed, tired, stressed, sad, tired, depressed, anxious, etc. You might have feelings of frustration, just wanting things to be back to normal. These are all normal emotions. The important thing to realize is that this is a temporary situation. You might have questions that there may not be answers for. Keep in mind that your teachers, administration, coaches, and staff are on your side, and we want to do everything we can to support you. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and ask for help.
