Stone Ages and Early Cultures

6th grade Social Studies classes are studying the Stone Ages and how early cultures came to exist. We have learned how early cultures were primarily hunter-gathers and lived a nomadic life of traveling around looking for food, water, and shelter.  We have learned that one of the most important developments of early Stone Age culture was the creation of language and art. Students spent a couple of days looking at different examples of cave paintings and even got the opportunity in creating their very own “cave paintings.” It has been fun to learn about the drastic changes in language as well as the importance of cave paintings, and how scientists believe that the artwork was used to teach people how to hunt and tell various cultural stories. Below are a few examples of students' very own “cave paintings.”
