Under the direction of the certified teacher, the paraprofessional assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, helps special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety. The qualified candidate should have effective problem solving and communication skills, be innovative and flexible, and have appropriate student engagement skills. Paraprofessionals work under the direct supervision of an appropriately certified teacher to provide instructional assistance. The successful candidate will demonstrate diverse professional knowledge, a vision of excellence, a student-centered focus, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. A demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others Ability to organize, be flexible and motivate others Ability to utilize mature and discreet judgment and handle confidential matters Willingness to assume any responsibilities, which are appropriate for the position OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Must work under the direct supervision of coordinating teacher when supporting instructional or behavioral services May assume limited duties that are assigned to similar personnel, including duties beyond classroom support Assist students to complete instructional activities May be required to assist students with self-care needs Assist in the supervision of students as required to meet individual needs Participate in training activities as required by the District Perform other duties as directed by the Director, Principal or Supervising Teacher, which are related to facilitating success.

 

Patience, the ability to be flexible, and an understanding of students with disabilities are a must.

 

Responsibilities include working with students who have special needs in the instructional setting while utilizing a variety of techniques under the supervision of the classroom teacher and Building Administrator. The candidate will also be expected to provide appropriate supervision of students, maintain strict confidentiality, act in a professional manner, as well as perform other duties assigned The applicant should be a student-centered, positive, team-oriented individual who will assist the teacher in a smooth functioning environment.
