Senior Spotlight 2021: Emily Davis

Help us celebrate PCHS Class of 2021 Senior Spotlight, Emily Davis!

 

Emily is the daughter of Eric and Christina Davis. She is also our 2021 Salutatorian!

 

Emily received the Harry S Truman Leadership Scholarship for $10,000 that is renewable annually. She also received the Bright Flight Scholarship at Truman and received the maximum amount awarded, $3000 and renewable annually.

 

To qualify for the Bright Flight maximum award of $3000 per year, a student must be in the top 3% of his or her statewide high school class as determined by normalized tests, the ACT and SAT composite scores. To date and for several years, a score of 31 or above on the ACT or an SAT-equivalent score qualifies, but the score can change each year. A composite score of 31 is currently needed to qualify for the college freshmen. Emily scored 32 on her ACT.

 

Other high honors Emily received this year include:

Gold Performance (clarinet solo) at MSHSAA State Music Festival.

John Philip Sousa Award for Band.

The Sousa Award is a national award described as "the pinnacle of achievement in a high school band. Introduced in 1955 to honor the top student in the high school band, the John Philip Sousa Band Award® recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication".

She is our PCHS Drum Major.

 

Emily served as our local FFA Chapter Secretary as well as our Area 3 FFA Secretary.

She was awarded the FFA DeKalb award.

The DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award is awarded to one FFA student per chapter who exemplifies scholarship, commitment, work ethic, and passion for pursuing a career in agriculture. These students demonstrate promising young talent and are the rising stars of agriculture. Students can be nominated to receive this award by their FFA advisors.

 

She served as our local FBLA Chapter President as well as our District FBLA Secretary.

 

When asked, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

 

“In ten years, I see myself with the college degree I worked hard for and becoming successful at my job. I see myself still close with my family and making new memories with the people I love.”

 

What are your plans after graduation?

 

“I plan to attend college at Truman State University and major in Accounting.”

 

What’s your favorite memory at PCR-I?

 

“My favorite memory at PCR-1 is either the State Solo and Ensembles Festival or District Band. There is nothing quite like singing songs from musicals at the top of your lungs and playing Heads Up with the band on the bus."

 

What’s your advice for incoming freshmen?

 

“My advice for incoming freshmen is to be as involved as possible. High school is a great time to try new things and diversify your interests! Being involved is a great way to make lots of friends and fun memories with different groups!”

 

What is something you want people to know?

 

“I want people to know there is always a silver lining. Even if matters don't go as planned, there is always something to be grateful for. Some days may seem cloudy, but the sun will shine again. Keep looking up!”

Who inspires you to pursue your dreams?

 

“Every day, my parents continue to inspire and encourage me to pursue my dreams. I would not be where I am today without their endless love and support. As I grow up, I hope to follow in their footsteps and continue to make them proud.”
