I Have to Remember?

A few days ago geometry students worked together finding the area and perimeter of figures on the coordinate plane. Students needed to recall several concepts that had been previously learned and apply them. Reminders were given when students thought they didn’t have the tools to attack the given problem. Some were surprised that they had to remember from Algebra the relationship of slopes of perpendicular lines and so on.
It was a good activity to bring to mind that concepts learned should not be thrown away when tests are over but are useful to solve problems in our future.
