Fairy Tale Case Brief
After learning about State and Federal Court Systems, the Business Law class learned to write a case brief, which is a study tool used by law students to prepare for class and exams. A case brief can also be referred to as a legal brief or case summary. Case briefs include the facts of the case, the legal issues of the case, the rule of law or legal principle applied in the case, and the holding and reasoning of the majority (how the court decided the case). Students looked at different examples of case briefs before writing their own. Working with a partner, students chose a fairy tale and read two different versions of the story. They had to decide what law or laws were violated and how the lawsuit would be set up (defendant, plaintiff, what court it was to be tried in). Then they constructed a case brief of the fairy tale lawsuit. Blaine P. and Josh M. wrote their brief on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The rule of law was breaking and entering.
