Shelly Seaton: Teacher Spotlight

Mrs. Shelly Seaton is another outstanding math teacher at Putnam and is our next #HomegrownHero featured teacher.

When we asked Shelly to tell us who inspired her to pursue a career in education, this is what she had to say: "Mrs. Marilyn Carr and Mrs. Barb Hodges inspired me to choose a career in education. I originally thought I would like to be a CPA. Mrs. Carr encouraged me to listen to a presentation given by a CPA while attending a high school business competition. I can remember leaving there wide-eyed knowing I could NOT sit in a cubicle and not be able to refrain from talking to people all day. I can still see Mrs. Carr smiling and saying "I know." (I might have been a little talkative as a high school student.) I always enjoyed Mrs. Hodges' math classes and knew a teacher's schedule would fit my rodeo lifestyle. While I may not have always known I wanted to be a teacher, I do believe it is what I was always supposed to do!"

Shelly graduated from Putnam County High School in 1991. After graduation, she attended Northwest Missouri State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education - Mathematics in 1995. She has been teaching for 25 years and we have been lucky to have her here with us for 5 of those 25.

Shelly is married to Kevin Seaton. Together they have three children; Kaden, Jade, and Karley. Kevin and Shelly enjoy watching their kids at their sporting events; rodeos, barrel racing, basketball games, softball games, and track meets. They also enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the lake, hunting, golfing, and ATV rides. They recently seized an opportuni-tea and opened Strive-Time Nutrition on the square in Unionville.

Here's what a fellow staff member had to say about Shelly: "I think out of all the subjects to teach, teaching Math would be the most difficult. Not only is it very technical and important to develop for our future, but she teaches middle school students, and that is not always easy! However, anytime I see her, she always seems to be upbeat and happy. She knows how to have fun and it shows."

Help us celebrate Mrs. Shelly Seaton! Thank you for pouring your heart and math skills into our students!
