Mike Elson: Teacher Spotlight

As we are celebrating Art and Music this week, it's a great time to celebrate our new addition this year, Mr. Michael Elson, our Middle and High School Art Instructor.

Mr. Elson grew up on a farm near Linneus, MO, and graduated from Brookfield R-III in 2004. He attended NCMC, Truman State University, MACC, and Columbia College, exploring Computer Science and Art Education. He has been a practicing artist for the past 15 years, working in a variety of mediums. He enjoys bringing his real-world art experience to the classroom.

We asked Mr. Elson what inspired him to pursue a career in art education. His reply, "I hope to provide the tools of creative self-expression that I received from my art instructors."

When Mr. Elson is away from the classroom, you can find him in the great outdoors. He enjoys camping in hammocks, cooking on stoves and campfires, reading books (fiction and non-fiction), traveling locally and abroad, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Aside from art classes, art club, and assisting with activities at the school, Mr. Elson is now preparing for his first Putnam County Prom with the Junior class. This first year at PCR-I is keeping him busy.

Thank you, Mr. Elson, for choosing PCR-I and inspiring our young artists!
