Taylor Bennett: Teacher Spotlight

Help us show some appreciation for Middle and High School Social Studies Teacher, Mrs. Taylor Bennett!

Taylor is married to David Bennett. They have a baby girl named Chloe.

Fun fact about Mrs. Taylor...she is one of 9 children!

We asked Mrs. Bennett to tell us about her journey to a career in education. This is what she had to say. "I graduated from Herculaneum High School and went to college at Hannibal-LaGrange University where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Social Studies. I have always liked History and found it really interesting. For me, it wasn't a decision to become a teacher because I have wanted that for as long as I can remember. It was more about what I wanted to teach. After tutoring 4th grade for A+, I knew I didn't want to teach elementary school, so I decided to teach high school. I got my middle school certification just to help me get a job. Since I started teaching 8th grade here at Putnam in 2018, I found that I love middle school and probably should have been here all along!"

Mrs. Bennett told us that "Mrs. Fitz at Herculaneum High School inspired me to become a teacher. She made history fun and engaging and I wanted to do that too."

Here's what a staff member had to say about Mrs. Bennett: "Taylor constantly goes above and beyond. She is always finding professional development opportunities and gaining new resources for her classroom outside of the required professional development. She has completely overhauled her curriculum just this year to meet the needs of our students. Mrs. Bennett is flexible and willing to meet her students where they are and then take them further than they thought they could go. We are so incredibly blessed to have Mrs. Bennett teaching such an essential subject. She is shaping future citizens of the world and that is so important."

Help us thank Mrs. Bennett for making PCR-I home!
