FFA Spring Awards Banquet

Newly installed 2022-23 Putnam CountyFFA Officers. (l-r): Emma Whitlock, Reporter; Adeline Dickerson, Historian; Maddison Beals, Parliamentarian; Kloey Pearson, Treasurer; Dylan Hamilton, Secretary; Chase Tomlin, 2nd Vice President; Chase Simmons, President, Cora Hartwig, 1st Vice President; Jude Watt, Sentinel; Jacob Daniel, Chaplain; and next year's FFA Advisor Cassie Cowles.

The 2021-22 FFA officer team conducted the annual FFA Awards Banquet on May 4th, 2022. Contest teams, proficiency award winners, and other individuals were recognized for accomplishments throughout the year.  Approximately 150 members and guests attended this year's banquet. After the meal, the awards presentation was started and the results are as follows:

This year, 5 students completed Proficiency Awards in 5 areas, and all were first-place winners on the chapter level. These members were; Kennedee Beals (Beef Production Placement), Chase Tomlin (Small Animal Production), Trey O’Reilly (Oil Crop Production), Cora Hartwig (Agriculture Education Placement), and Chase Simmons (Ag.Sales Placement). 

The Leadership Award is designed to honor individuals from each class who display tremendous leadership abilities throughout the year. The Leadership pins were awarded to several students in each class. This year’s recipients were Freshmen: Trinity Alexander, Albany Wood, Maddison Beals, Brock Munden, and Bailey Diveley. Sophomores: Dylan Hamilton, Jude Watt, and Jacob Daniel. Juniors: Chase Simmons, Kloey Pearson, Chase Tomlin, and Cora Hartwig. Seniors: Vanessa Bondy and Sofia Valencia. 

The Scholarship pin is given to those with a grade point average of at least 4.0 The members that received this award were Freshmen: Gretchen Dickerson, Maddison Beals, Elija Brown, Macie Hendee, Gideon Jones, Logan Jones, Jenna Knowles, Brock Munden, and Albany Wood. Sophomores: Emma Dodsworth, Dylan Hamilton, Jude Watt, and Reed Valentine. Juniors: Cora Hartwig, Kloey Pearson, and Chase Simmons. Seniors: Sofia Valencia, Vanessa Bondy, and Erinn Dodsworth.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is given to those who exhibit outstanding commitment to leadership and participation in the chapter’s activities.  Members winning this award were Freshmen: Gretchen Dickerson, Logan Jones, Kooper Hornaday, Case Preston, and Gideon Jones. Sophomores: Emma Dodsworth, Trace Halley, and Haylie Graham. Juniors: Trey O’Reilly, Tessa Gillis, Silvia Brown, Kennedee Beals, and Adeline Dickerson. Senior: Kora Bain.

Vanessa Bondy received the DeKalb Leadership Award which is given to the graduating senior who has been very successful in his or her agricultural program during their high school career.  This award is based on scholastic achievement, leadership and SAE.

The Star Greenhand award is given to the most active first-year member that has a strong SAE program and who has demonstrated strong leadership and chapter participation.  This year’s Star Greenhand was Maddison Beals. 

Some of the final high honors awarded were: Vanessa Bondy was selected as the Star Chapter Farmer. This is given to a student with an outstanding entrepreneurship based SAE program who has excellent chapter leadership and participation.   Chase Simmons and Vanessa Bondy were also recognized for receiving their State FFA Degrees. 

The evening concluded with the installation of the new officers.  The 2022-23 officer team is Chaplain, Jacob Daniel; Parliamentarian, Maddison Beals; Historian, Adeline Dickerson; Sentinel, Jude Watt; Reporter, Emma Whitlock; Treasurer, Kloey Pearson; Secretary, Dylan Hamilton; 2nd Vice President, Chase Tomlin; 1st Vice President, Cora Hartwig; and President, Chase Simmons..

The FFA Chapter would like to thank everyone who contributed to the banquet to make it a success.  We would also like to thank Tim Messman, who acted as a liaison with Farmland and donated the pork shoulder for the banquet dinner. A special thanks also to Tammy Head for cooking the meat and catering the meal. The members would also like to thank everyone who supported the chapter during the school year. Your continual support has been greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Mr. Morris on his retirement!
