Teacher Spotlight: Making Music with Mr. Waugh

Check out what our PCHS Journalism students had to say about Mr. Waugh.

Mr. Waugh tells us he wanted to become a band director because he enjoyed band as an escape from everything else as a student, and he wants that for his students in the band. His favorite subjects aside from band are math and science.

Mr. Waugh earned his degree from Hannibal-LaGrange University and his favorite part of his college experience was being in a traveling ministry choir and getting to meet amazing people that shared enjoyment in the same things as him. During college, he listened to classic rock and Christmas music.

As a kid, Mr. Waugh wanted to become a paleontologist because he wanted to dig up dinosaur bones but soon figured out that there was a lot of writing involved.

His dream vacation would be to go on a tour around Europe to experience different cuisines, golf, and get to see all the music history there. Mr. Waugh’s favorite National Park is Olympic National Park in Washington because of the trees and the mountains. If he were to retire he would want to retire near his family and somewhere he can golf every day.

Mr. Waugh is the Middle and High School Music Education Teacher and Varsity Girls' Golf coach. He is married to Mrs. Waugh, our Elementary Music Teacher, and they have two children, Grace and Arthur.

We would also like to congratulate Mr. Waugh and the Putnam County Band as they earned an “Outstanding” rating (2) in their prepared pieces and an ”Exemplary” (top possible score) on their sight reading at State Festival last week!

Best of luck to Mr. Waugh and the band and choir students at competitions this spring! Make plans to attend Evening with the Arts on April 22, 2023, at 6:00 pm. For more information on Evening with the Arts, check out the link below.
