Putnam County FFA Spring Awards Banquet Held

            The 2014-2015 FFA officer team conducted the annual FFA Awards Banquet on May 6th, 2015.  Contest teams, proficiency award winners, and other individuals were recognized for accomplishments throughout the year.

            To begin the evening, we listened to our guest speaker, Brock Larson, former Area III State Vice President, give an inspiring speech about perseverance and not giving up.

            This year eleven students completed proficiency awards at the area level. Katelyn (Food Science and Technology), Megan (Food Service Placement), and Tanner (Agriculture Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Entrepreneurship) advanced to state. Haley (Beef Cattle Production Entrepreneurship), Sara (Sheep Production Entrepreneurship), Jacob (Wildlife Management Placement), Josh (Agriculture Fabrication and Design Placement), Riley (Agriculture Sales Placement), Matthieu (Grain Production Entrepreneurship), Justin (Forage Production Placement), and Kyle (Goat Production Entrepreneurship) all placed in the top five at area.

            The Scholarship and Leadership pins were awarded to several students in each class.  The Leadership Award is designed to honor individuals from each class who display tremendous leadership abilities throughout the year.  This year’s recipients were Colton, Joe, Tyler, Ashlyn, Sara, Trevor, Tanner, Derek, Katelyn, Katey, Courtney, Kyle, Hunter, Megan, Riley, and Haley.

The Scholarship pin is given to those with the highest grade point averages in their class. The members that received this award were Grant, Treyton, Callie, Amy, Sara, Trevor, Jordan, Tanner, Lauren, Katey, Courtney, Katelyn, and Josie.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is given to those who exhibit outstanding commitment to leadership and participation in the chapter’s activities.  Members winning this award were Austin, Callie, Elizabeth, Jessica, Joel, Grant, Joshua, Stephanie, Alex, Selby, Jacob, Brianna, Jordan, Morgan, Wyatt, Lauren, Jay, Jamie, Matthieu, Justin, Josh, Devin, Alisyn, Taya, and Jordan.

Haley received the DeKalb Outstanding Senior award which is given to the graduating senior who has had the most accomplishment in his or her agricultural program during their high school career. 

The Star Greenhand award is given to the most active first year member that has a strong SAE program and who has demonstrated strong leadership and chapter participation.  This year’s Star Greenhand was Amy.

Haley was selected as the Star Chapter Farmer. Riley received the Star Chapter Ag. Placement Award. Katelyn Gillum received her State Degree.

This year the chapter chose induct Mary Comstock as an Honorary Chapter Member. We would like to thank Mary for her many years of dedication and contributions to the FFA.

The evening was concluded with the installation of the new officers.  The 2015-16 officer team is Chaplain, Tyler; Parliamentarian, Ashlyn; Historian, Hunter; Sentinel, Megan; Reporter, Kyle; Treasurer, Katey; Secretary, Sara; 2nd Vice President, Tanner; 1st Vice President, Courtney; and President, Katelyn.

            The FFA Chapter would like to thank everyone who contributed to the banquet to make it a success.  We would also like to thank Tim Messman, who acted as a liaison with Farmland, who donated the pork lion for the banquet dinner. The members would also like to thank everyone who supported the chapter during the school year.  Your continual support has been greatly appreciated.
