PC Baseball Opens Season
After their initially scheduled season-opening games versus Knox County were postponed due to poor field conditions, on Thursday, March 21, the Putnam County R - 1 baseball teams took the field for the first time in Milan to face the Wildcats. Extended wintery conditions have kept the Midgets indoors for the majority of the young season, and Thursday evening's match up with the Wildcats marked the Midget's first action on the dirt. Despite temperatures in the low 30s, the Midgets competed well but ultimately dropped the varsity and junior varsity contests 3 - 13 and 1 - 6, respectively.
In the varsity game, Drake M., junior, and Cory L., senior, led the Midget's defense from mound, each throwing in the neighborhood 60 pitches, consistently putting their teammates in positions to make outs. Cory L. and Drake M. paced the Midget's offense as well, adding a double and a single, while juniors Jarrod M. and Anthony S. also added hits.
Overall the Midget coaching staff was pleased with how both teams competed. The Milan games are a good starting points for both squads and have provided a lot to build on. The Midgets are schedule to play three times during the week of March 25; however, the weather may have different plans. Stay tuned during the spring for more on Midget baseball.
