Fifth Grade Field Trip

by Joy Collins

May 02, 2008

Fifth graders will be traveling to Pioneer Trail Adventures in Independence, Missouri, on May 15.

Buses will leave at 6:45 A.M. and hopefully return by 5:30 P.M.

The school's 500 number may be checked on the day of the field trip, around 5:00 P.M.,for the definite time of arrival back in Unionville.

People who live west of Unionville, may be picked up/dropped off at the Midway Baptist Church, Junction 139, or the Lucerne exit, but a note must be sent to the child's teacher requesting to be picked up at one of these locations.

Tour activities will include: The National Frontier Trails Center, a tour of the Bingham Waggoner Estate, an 1827 log courthouse, and a ride in a covered wagon.

The day of the trip, students may bring money to spend at a gift shop in the National Frontier Trails Center.  CD players, hand-held video games, cameras, etc. may be brought on the bus, but your child is responsible for any items he/she brings.  Teachers and room mothers will not be responsible for anything lost, stolen, or damaged.

The school cafeteria will be providing sack lunches with a choice of a ham and cheese sandwich or a peanut butter sandwich for our lunches.  Snacks to eat on the bus may be brought by the students.

Students have been asked to dress weather appropriately and to wear comfortable shoes because we do a lot of walking.  A considerable amount of time is spent outside.

We fifth grade teachers feel this will be a fun and exciting way to experience and learn a bit of our past heritage.
