Carla Miller: Teacher Spotlight

It is National School Counseling Week! Help us celebrate our high school guidance counselor, Ms. Carla Miller!

When we asked Ms. Miller about her journey into education, this is what she had to say:

"Mrs. Warren, my high school English teacher, inspired me to pursue a career in education. I graduated from Linden-Kildare High School in Texas in 1989. I started going to college in Texas but then moved to Missouri during a snowstorm (We feel like there might be a funny story in there, Ms. Miller, and maybe a bit of a culture or weather shock moving from Texas to Missouri.) I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Science and a Master's degree. I eventually went to William Woods and earned my Specialist degree. I worked at Schuyler County for 2 years. I have been at Putnam County since 1997."

Ms. Miller taught high school English classes for us beginning in 1997. After teaching for several years, she transitioned into guidance counseling in 2004. Ms. Miller is often spotted planning the fun activities at Putnam. She enjoys the laughter and memories made on the annual Senior Trip, college visits, and of course all the dances and karaoke.

In Ms. Miller's spare time, you can find her with family and friends, visiting auctions and flea markets, and spending time on the farm. She enjoyed watching her son Jayden Spence, grow up, play sports, and graduate as a Putnam County Midget. Her sister Candice, and her brother-in-law Adam, both 1996 PC graduates, have given her two adorable red-headed nieces, whom Ms. Miller loves to spoil and cheer on at their events.

We are grateful for the time and energy Ms. Miller pours into helping our high school students carve out their path to success. Thank you, Ms. Miller! We appreciate you!
