Tips For Struggling Readers

If you have a student who struggles with reading, the one thing I want you to know is that it is never too early to begin seeking assistance to help your child succeed.

  1. Do NOT wait to get your child some help. Early intervention is best.

  2. Read to/with your child a few minutes daily. (20-30 minutes if possible)

  3. Help your child choose books at their level.

  4. Consider checking out audiobooks.

  5. Create a reader-friendly home by monitoring screen time and having books readily available.

  6. Make reading fun. Visit the library often to pick out new books.

As parents, one thing we should all do is expose our children to books. Children do not read at the same level. It is important that a child reads at their own level and feels successful. This will encourage a child to continue reading and build on their reading skills. Feel free to reach out to your teachers and ask for extra assistance in helping your child increase their reading abilities. Practice and strategies make all the difference.
