Tara Fenton: Teacher Spotlight

February is #loveteaching month and we cannot wait to celebrate more of our terrific teachers at PCR-I!

Ms. Tara Fenton joined our teaching team over 9 years ago. She grew up just miles across the border in Seymour, Iowa.

When asked about her journey into education, this is what Tara had to say: "I graduated from high school at Seymour Community School in 2002. I then went to college at Indian Hills to earn my Associate of Arts degree in 2004. While completing my Associate's degree, I enrolled at Graceland University to pursue my Bachelor"s Degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Reading. I earned my Bachelor's degree in 2005. I then taught Title I Reading and Math and seventh grade English at Newtown-Harris RIII for 8 years. While at Newtown-Harris I went to William Woods University to obtain a Master's Degree in Administration in 2007. I then took a job here at Putnam County Schools where I taught third grade for 2 years and this will be my 7th year teaching first grade!"

Ms. Fenton tells us that she has always loved children and loves making a difference in their lives. "I can honestly say I enjoyed and learned from all of my teachers as a student and hope to do the same for my students. Also, it's a bonus to have summers off with my family."

Ms. Fenton lives in the country with her significant other, Josh, and their 3 children, Karver, Kyson, and Adley.

When asked what Ms. Fenton does in her spare time, she replied, "My kids are very active in sports, so that pretty much takes up a lot of my spare time and I love cheering them on. When I'm not teaching or following my kids around to sporting events I LOVE to spend time on our boat on the lake or spending a lazy day at the pool."

Ms. Fenton told us if she had to choose a favorite quote it would have to be one of Dr. Seuss's quotes: "You're off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!"

Thank you, Ms. Fenton, for pouring your heart into our Firsties at PCR-I!
