Calvin Heidenwith: Teacher Spotlight

Our next Teacher Spotlight is also a #HometownHero.

Mr. Calvin Heidenwith or "Coach Cal" tells us, "I graduated from Putnam County in 2017. I chose to come back because I care about this community and the people here. I want to see this community succeed and grow. The youth are our future and it's important that we provide them opportunities through quality education. I hope I can positively contribute to their experiences at Putnam County R-I."

Calvin serves as the High School Marketing Teacher, DECA Advisor, Alternative Classroom Supervisor, and Assistant Varsity Baseball and Basketball Coach. His parents are Cody and Alice Heidenwith (also a teacher at PCR-I). Calvin has one brother, Zach, who is a senior this year. Coach Cal tells us, "When I'm not teaching or coaching you can find me working in Triple B's food trailers. I am also a MSHSAA football, basketball, baseball, and softball official. Along with High School officiating, I also work as an NAIA college football official in the Heart of America Conference. One of my favorite quotes is "Success is never owned, it is rented, and rent is due every day." -Rory Vaden

We asked Mr. Heidenwith to tell us about his path to a career in education. He told us, "I had really influential educators during my time at Putnam County and even during my college career. I value the relationships I share with those people and the impact they have had on my life. Getting into education, for me, was to hopefully be able to provide the same experience that I received to the students and athletes I get to work with."

This is Coach Cal's first year teaching at Putnam and it has already been a memorable one! As Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach, Coach Cal was able to celebrate the hard work of his brother Zach and the rest of the team as they earned the number 3 spot in the state for Class 2 basketball. He also helped several DECA students advance to state in his first year as the advisor. Baseball started and we are excited for this season too!

Help us thank and congratulate, Mr. Calvin Heidenwith, our next #hometownhero!
