Congratulations to Cheryl Mayer, 2nd Grade Teacher!

Hey, Putnam County community! Help us welcome back but in a different role, Mrs. Cheryl Mayer, 2nd-grade teacher!

That's right! Mrs. Mayer is moving to 2nd grade. 🥳

💙Cheryl started working at PC 7 years ago. She enjoyed 4 years as a Preschool paraprofessional, then 2 years as our At-Risk Coordinator.

🤍We asked Cheryl to tell us a little bit about her journey to education. Here's what she had to say.

💙"I was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Right after I graduated high school, I joined the Army Reserve as I wanted to go to school to be an Elementary Teacher. Plans changed. I moved to Louisiana and was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to do a detainee operations mission down there as a prison guard for 9 months. Then I moved back to Pennsylvania, between all the hustle and bustle (taking classes online here and there while deployed), Brian and I put an end to our long-distance relationship of 3 years, got married, moved to Missouri and I finished my degree in Early Childhood Education from Central Methodist University. Needless to say, the journey did not go as planned and took longer than expected; however, I couldn't be happier where I am today, with the career I have and working at the same place with the same hours as my two boys and husband."

🤍What inspired you to pursue a career in education?

"I wouldn't say anyone particular inspired me to choose a career in education but I have always enjoyed being around kids, taking care of them, and wanting to make a difference or an impact in their lives."

💙What do you do when you're not at school or sporting events?

"I'm a mom of 2 busy and wild but cute boys. I enjoy spending my time with them. My husband says I don't have a hobby (which is probably true) but who has time when you are a mom, wife, and coach's wife?! Ha! I occasionally get to binge-watch a Netflix show when my boys aren't hogging the TV. I'm pretty much a homebody. I love all things chocolate and coffee. I enjoy being outside, hunting occasionally, taking family trips, and spending time with my family."

🥳Congratulations on your new role, Mrs. Mayer! We are #PutnamProud of you and excited for your new adventure in 2nd grade!
