Students Explore String Telephone Communication in STEAM
Mrs. Seaton's Middle School students investigated how sound travels through string and air this week. Students analyzed sound waves with a cup attached to a string. They combined the cup and the string with a partner to model a string telephone. They were given a design challenge to redesign the string telephone for distance. The students then thought about their model as it compares to modern telephones and the impact the inventions of phones have had on society.
What a great engineering activity to get our students thinking! Technology definitely has improved the ability to communicate quickly over long distances over the years.
