Music In Our Schools Month

March has been proclaimed as Music In Our Schools Month by the Governor of Missouri. We are focusing on music education and music in our culture.

Something that I tell the students when they ask me, "Why is music important?", I challenge them to go a day in our lives without music. No TV, because there is so much music from theme songs to ads to movies. You can't go to the grocery store without hearing soft music on the speakers. Sporting events are started and accompanied by music. Music is very ingrained in our society, and students at school have a right to have access to a well-balanced, comprehensive, sequential, and high-quality program of musical instruction.

This month, Kindergarten, Third-grade, and Fourth-grade have all started their spring program practices. First-grade is trucking through "Carnival of the Animals" and bringing it to life through movement. Second-grade is finishing up their rhythm vs beat unit. Fifth-grade is ready to begin studying music in film after wrapping up our unit on music in Africa. The students at Putnam County work very hard in music class and they are growing and learning daily. March 21st-25th we will celebrate Music In Our Schools Month and Youth Art Month by having a dress-up week filled with activities.

Music Monday: Dress Musically/wear band t-shirt/music themed clothes

Super Tuesday: The Arts are Super! Dress as your favorite artist/superhero

Wacky Wednesday: Keep Calm & Color On! Dress in colorful clothing & patterns head to toe

Tie-Dye Thursday: Wear Tie-Dye to celebrate the art and music of the 60’s

Funky Friday: Dress up like you’re from the 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s!

Students and Staff that show the most ART SPIRIT by participating will have names put in a drawing for prizes.~

Please dress, draw, and sing appropriately and all school rules apply.
