👩‍⚕️❤️Putnam County R-I School Nurse Leads Cardiac Emergency Response Training

Putnam County R-I Schools and School Nurse, Stephanie Gillum, LPN, are taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff by spearheading the development of a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) and team (CERT). This morning, CERT members participated in a comprehensive training drill to put their CERP skills into action.

A cardiac emergency response plan is crucial in scenarios where an individual is suddenly collapsing or found unresponsive. CERT members are trained to swiftly and effectively respond to such situations, with key responsibilities including:

1. Transporting AED to Emergency Location: Rapid deployment of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to the scene of the emergency.

2. CPR and AED Usage: Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and operating the AED device as needed.

3. Scribing: Documenting events in real-time, including the time of the emergency, initiation of CPR, AED usage, arrival of emergency medical services (EMS), and rotation of CERT members for compressions every two minutes.

4. Crowd Control: Ensuring that only CERT team members and EMS personnel are present at the scene to facilitate efficient emergency response.

Nurse Stephanie's dedication to educating PCR-I staff on CPR and Emergency Response protocols is commendable. Her leadership ensures that staff members are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively in critical situations.

We extend our gratitude to Dr. Halley and PCR-I Schools for their unwavering support in providing life-saving training to staff members. Together, we are committed to fostering a safe and prepared school community.
