Happy New Year!

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed time with your families!  It is hard to believe that January is already here and the school year is halfway complete!  I certainly look forward to another few months to learn and grow with your child!

Also, thank you for the wonderful Christmas gifts—it was extremely generous and thoughtful of you!  I am truly blessed to have such terrific students and parents!

Communication Arts:  Due to the short week, we just reviewed previously learned skills and words, read and discussed books, and built and read sentences.  Next week we will begin Theme 5, “Let’s Count!”

Math:  This week we compared numbers and sets of objects, weighed objects using nonstandard units, and ordered objects by weight.  In addition, we learned about combining sets by counting on and practiced handwriting numbers 1-10.  As always, we also continue to practice writing our numbers to 20, 50, and 100.

Behavior Reminder:  This first half week back from Christmas break, students still received one warning.  However, beginning next week, there will be no more warnings and cards will just be flipped.  Students should know all school rules and expected behaviors by now.  We are preparing them to move on to first grade!

Reminders/Upcoming Dates:

  • Baggie books/flash cards will resume on Monday, Jan. 8.

  • 12:45 early-out dismissals: Jan. 10

  • End of 2nd quarter/1st semester was Wed., Dec. 20.  Grade cards will be emailed today.

  • Snow:  If there is any snow on the ground, students will need SNOW boots and snow pants during recess. Otherwise, they will be expected to stay on the sidewalks to play.  Also, your child will be expected to go out during recess.  We will go outside unless the temperature or wind chill is 15-20 degrees or below.  Therefore, please continue to dress your child warm for those cold days (warm coats, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots if there’s snow, etc.)!  Several students in particular arecoming to school without hats and/or gloves and complaining that they are cold.  Finally, please send an extra pair of shoes with your child when there’s snow on the ground so they don’t have to wear their boots and track through the school, especially on our carpet.  If they don’t have an extra pair, we don’t let them get in the snow because of the mess it makes in the classroom and halls.

  • NO SCHOOL--Jan. 15 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

  • Next Character Ed. Assembly:  Friday, January 26 at 8:30 in the elementary gym

  • January Book-It reading log (in Friday folders today) is due back by Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.

Things That Need to Come Back on Monday:

  • Friday Folder

  • Snack for snack time (every day)

  • Rest mat (washed and in zipped plastic bag)

  • Lunch/milk money (if needed)

  • New crayons if you haven’t sent with your child already (set of 8 or 10 basic colors—no jumbo crayons please)

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sara Ingersoll        \\picon\staffhomes\singersoll\My Pictures\Snowman and winter clipart\imagesCAS80519.jpg
