Third Grade Field Trip

Thirty-six third grade students had the opportunity to visit the Arabia Steamboat Museum and Legoland and in Kansas City on Thursday, April 5.  Our first stop was the Arabia Steamboat Museum where the students were able to learn about the world's largest display of pre-Civil War artifacts.  Students participated in a guided tour, watched a video describing the Arabia Steamboat and the excavation, and even smelled perfume that was aboard the ship.  (A perfume company in New York replicated the perfume from a sample unearthed on the Arabia.)  Students learned how the museum is still working to clean artifacts from the sunken steamboat.  Most exciting, the owners are going to try another steamboat excavation this fall.  We look forward to learning more about that later this year.

After lunch, the students traveled to Legoland where fun was had by all.  Students enjoyed watching a 3D movie, building with Lego blocks, and seeing the attractions of Legoland.  Miniland was very popular.  This is where Lego Master Builders have created iconic Kansas City landmarks all from Lego.  Students also liked the Merlin's Apprentice ride where human power (bike pedaling) made the "car" climb high in the sky.

The students represented Putnam County very well.  It was an AWESOME field trip!
