Busy April for 4th Grade!
We had a very busy April in 4th grade. In addition to MAP testing, which took up most of the third week in April, we were busy reviewing everything we have learned this year. We did get some fun activities in, however! We went on our field trip to Thousand Hills State Park and also had the Spring Music and Art Program last month.
At Thousand Hills State Park, the park naturalist planned a hike for us. Before embarking on our hike, she taught us how to identify common animal tracks by using a postcard sized key. The key listed several kinds of tracks and included a picture and ruler so that students could measure the prints they found. Fourth graders located dog, bobcat, and raccoon tracks on the hike. Speaking of raccoons... we had an expected encounter with one of the nocturnal creatures. While hiking, we noticed that a raccoon that was sleeping in a hollow tree had awakened and was peeping out at us. Later on the trail, we came to a beautiful waterfall surrounded by flat rocks. The hike ended with a steep trek up a flight of stairs, and the 4th graders barely escaped being rained on.
After hiking, we went to the bowling alley. It was the first time bowling for several of the 4th graders. They had a great time, and they also got to check out the billiards area and the arcade games.
There are also some photos from our Spring Music and Art program that was put together by Mrs. Dinwiddie and Mrs. Dooley. The creations that students have made over the school year were displayed for all to see in the middle school commons. Fourth grade performed several songs together on stage. We also had many students perform solo on instruments such as the piano, recorder, and violin.
