April is School Library Month!

School Libraries Empower Students

April is a special month for book lovers and educators alike as it marks School Library Month, a time to recognize the vital role that school libraries play in empowering students. At PCR-I, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated library and media team for their tireless efforts in fostering a love of reading among our students.

Mrs. Robin Caley: Leading the way in the Elementary, Mrs. Caley creates engaging lessons during library time, helping students develop a lifelong passion for reading.

Mrs. Haley Watt and Mr. James Carleton: In the high school library, Mrs. Watt and Mr. Carleton curate a diverse selection of books and resources to cater to the interests of our middle and high school students, ensuring there's something for everyone.

This year, we're excited to introduce the Sora App, providing students with access to thousands of e-books and audiobooks from anywhere, anytime. With just their school email and password, students can dive into a world of literature, whether they're on the bus, enjoying a road trip, or relaxing at home.

School Library Month is a time-honored tradition, celebrated alongside National Library Week and National School Librarian Day. Libraries have long been recognized as centers of learning and development, offering a treasure trove of knowledge and resources for students and adults alike.

History of School Library Month: From the ancient library of Alexandria to the invention of the printing press and the establishment of school libraries in the 19th century, the journey of libraries has been intertwined with the quest for knowledge and literacy. School Library Month was officially established in 1985 by the American Association of School Librarians, highlighting the importance of school libraries in education.

As we celebrate School Library Month, we encourage parents to foster a love of reading at home by reading with their children, visiting the local Putnam County Public Library, and signing up for library cards. With access to books, the possibilities are endless, and the joy of reading knows no bounds.
